Moody's launches quarterly compilation focused on ESG and sustainable finance research

Moody's Investors Service today published the first edition of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)-themed research compilation.

The report, 'ESG focus,' will be published on a quarterly basis and pulls together research highlights on the credit implications of ESG trends and developments from across the rating agency. It also highlights Moody's work on Green Bond Assessments and its research on green and sustainable finance.

Among the reports featured in the first edition are Moody's global heat map report, which looks at the credit exposure of 84 industry sectors to environmental risks, as well as a report assessing the risk of the carbon transition to hydrocarbon-exporting sovereigns, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Azerbaijan. The compendium also highlights Moody's proposal for a governance assessment scoring tool for publicly traded non-financial rated companies and Moody's general principles for assessing ESG issues in credit analysis.

"ESG analysis is becoming increasingly prominent in the fixed-income investment community and Moody's is responding by deepening its commitment to providing transparent, systematic assessments of the impact of these considerations in its credit analysis," said Rahul Ghosh, a Senior Vice President at Moody's.

Institutional investors are increasingly seeking ways to integrate ESG into their asset allocation and risk management practices and nearly 2,000 investment managers and asset owners -- accounting for $81.7 trillion in assets under management -- have signed up to the UN-sponsored Principles for Responsible Investment.

"This compilation highlights our thematic research and insights in the areas of ESG and credit risk, as well as sustainable finance," adds Ghosh.

The research is an update to the markets and does not constitute a rating action. Visit Moody's hub (www.moodys.com/ESG) for the latest ESG-themed research, infographics & more.
